(Ottawa, ON) – Announced at the WinDoor show in Toronto last November, the Executive Committee was given a mandate by the Board of Directors to look for an alternative solution to the existing management structure under the Wood Manufacturing Council. Members subsequently endorsed the initiative at their fall meeting held during the association’s WinDoor show.

The Executive Search Committee has worked very diligently, examining various options including a complete structural re-organization. The objective was to seek the services of a quality individual that would be completely dedicated to a cost-effective management approach solution and lead the association to fully realize its potential as THE national trade association for the fenestration industry in Canada.

After an extensive search process, Fenestration Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert H. Rivard as its new Executive Director effective immediately.

MDL Doors Inc. announced January 31, 2013 that it will not be re‐opening its plant in Brussels, ON. On January 23 an early morning fire destroyed most of its operating facilities. No one was in the building at the time and there were no injuries.

MDL Doors operated a 60,000 square foot manufacturing facility and warehouse in Brussels. For the past 29 years the manufacturer of pre‐hung steel and fiberglass doors grew steadily; eventually employing 100 people.

Mervin Lichty, MDL Doors President and founder said, “This has been a difficult time for me, my family and our employees. So much hard work and commitment has been destroyed. If I were a younger man I would re‐build but at this stage in life I’ve decided it would be too much for me. It has been a great journey with an unfortunate ending. I am deeply saddened.

"I wish to offer my thank you to all employees, suppliers and customers who helped me build my dream. I send my best wishes to all of you. No one ever expected an ending like this.”

MDL Doors has made arrangements to transfer orders to Masonite International.
