CSA's Job Task Analysis Committee has recently completed an analysis of the FIT Level 1 Technician job and is enlisting the help of subject matter experts (installers, technicians, contractors, supervisors, educators, architects, designers, etc.) to participate in a short survey (about 30 minutes) to confirm the results of the analysis and provide input. |

The Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes (CCBFC) continues the development of an updated version of the National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB). In 1997 the Model National Energy Code for Buildings was published, but it was never adopted by any of the provinces. This code is for commercial buildings and multi unit residential buildings. |

Over the past sixteen months Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has conducted a consultation process with Participants and key stakeholders to develop a new version of the technical specification for ENERGY STAR qualified windows, doors and skylights sold in Canada. NRCan would like to publicly thank everyone who has taken the time to work with us or submit comments over the past 16 months. A new, harmonized performance standard for windows, doors and skylights has been developed and will be referenced in the 2010 National Building Code of Canada (NBC), replacing a number of Canadian standards, some of which were outdated. The standard is AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440, NAFS - North American Fenestration Standard/Specification for Windows, Doors, and Skylights. |

April 15, 2010 – The National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) presented its 2009 Member of the Year Award this week to Jeff Baker, of WESTLab, during the NFRC Spring Membership Meeting in New Orleans. Roland Temple, a longtime NFRC member who retired last year and earned the first Member of the Year Award, presented this year’s honor to Mr. Baker. |

The Canadian Window & Door Association (CWDMA) honoured many of the Canadian industry’s builders with the “Industry Pioneer” awards held at the Win-door North America Show held in Toronto on November 18th. The awards were held in conjunction with the celebration of Win-door North America's 15th anniversary.
Twenty-two of 42 honorees were at a special presentation to accept their award from CWDMA President Kevin Pelley of Kohltech International and Pioneer Committee Chair, Knut Holmsen of Marvin Windows. Robert Latour of Novatech Glass called up the winners and provided background on each of their histories and accomplishments. The awards were followed by guest speaker Walter Gretzky.
The Pioneers and their guests were treated to a “Special Dinner” in their honour. Several of the honorees took to the podium at the dinner to “tell their stories” and thank CWDMA for the honour.
The “Pioneer Designation” recognizes the nominee's efforts to promote and to better the objectives of the industry and association nationally.

The CWDMA’s Seminar series were once again presented through a series of webinars for 2010.
Last year the association decided to use the web-based seminars as a mean to reduce costs for the members, the feedback was very positive. As a result we used the same format in 2010.
CWDMA webinars were held the week of May 17th. For those who missed the CWDMA webinars, a voice recording and a pdf version of each presentation is now available on the members’ only area of the CWDMA website.

Mr. Langdon, CPA and author of Managing Your Business for Profit, has been assisting businesses in identifying and achieving their sales, marketing and financial goals since he began his consulting practice in 1981. He speaks continuously to corporate and association audiences and has spoken numerous times in the construction industry during the past five years. This experience enables Bob to understand the challenges and opportunities that we face. Mr. Langdon will deliver two one-hour seminars in November at Win-door 2010. Trade participation recorded over 2500 attendees plus exhibitors. “Like all shows in today’s marketplace – we faced the challenge of smaller attendee and exhibitor personnel numbers, but by all reports the quality was excellent!” stated Richard Lipman of the CWDMA. |
